With the arrival of summer we air out more, but is it really a good habit?

As summer arrives, the days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and thoughts inevitably turn to beach vacations. But as we prepare to enjoy the sun and the beach, there is one issue that, too often, we forget: indoor pollution, which accompanies us during the colder months and does not leave us even when the hot season arrives.

While summer invites us to spend more time outdoors, indoor air pollution continues to pose a serious threat to our health. During winter, we tend to keep our windows closed to defend ourselves from the cold, but even in summer, especially on hot days, the use of air conditioners and stagnant air in our homes or offices can cause invisible pollutants to proliferate.
In summer, when temperatures rise, we also open windows and doors more often with the intention of improving air quality. While this habit brings benefits, it can also carry risks: as we ventilate our rooms, outdoor pollutants and moisture can take over inside, contaminating the air we breathe.

How to deal with it?

Indoor pollution is caused by many factors: building materials, cleaning products, the use of electronic devices, and, of course, cigarette smoke. These factors contribute to the accumulation of particulate matter, volatile organic compounds and other substances harmful to the respiratory tract. In indoor environments, the air we breathe can be up to 10 times more polluted than the air outside.

So as we prepare to enjoy the sea and the wonders of summer, it is important not to forget that the quality of the air we breathe inside our homes can greatly affect our health. Indoor pollution is an invisible threat, but with small steps, such as the use of eco-friendly products and natural furnishings and plants that are particularly effective at absorbing pollutants such as ficus, sansevieria and potos, we can preserve the quality of the environment in which we live.
The first step to taking care of the air we breathe is to know it through daily monitoring of environmental parameters.
